Belly Rings Are Safer Than Ever

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Belly rings are no longer one of the most dangerous piercing to get.
Belly rings have benefitted the most from the new guidelines in regards to piercings. They have also profited greatly from society accepting piercings in all sexes and age groups.
Ever since belly rings were spotted on the runway in the early nineties, teen girls have been poking needles through their navels hoping to achieve the same look. Sadly, because they were considered too young and piercing wasn't regulated properly, many of these girls turned to friends or their mom's sewing kit to get their piercing.
Being underage with parents that won't sign a consent form meant that many girls would take matters into their own hands. Belly rings done correctly can be tricky enough, but done by amateurs without sterile conditions was a recipe for disaster. Infected navels were a common site through most of the nineties and you can still see scarred navels today.
Today, piercings have become more common and accepted by society. This leads to more parents signing the consent forms letting their children get pierced properly and safely. Done in sterile conditions, belly rings have a better chance of healing quickly and properly. Being done by a professional also lessens the risks of the piercing hitting a vital vein or doing any other damage.
Having navel rings accepted by society means there is no reason to hide the piercing. This lets air get to the holes, which promote healthy healing and helps prevent infection. Many navel infections were caused by girls hiding their piercing under bandages or layers of shirts, this would create a warm bacteria rich area in which infection went crazy.
All of these points add up to show that   rel=nofollow [http://www.bellybling.net]belly rings are safer today than ever. Proper piercing done by a professional followed up by correct care means no scarring. Even better than no scarring, properly done belly rings add beauty and intrigue to the body.

Will Belly Button Rings Lead Your Daughter To More Body Piercing?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Belly button rings are increasing in popularity with young females. Not everyone likes this, especially not parents. Are navel piercings really that bad and will they encourage more of the same?
Getting your navel pierced to wear belly button rings is safer than it has ever been. Most tattoo studios offer body piercing of many kinds along with their amazing options for body artwork. These studios are usually state-regulated so that you can be assured the staff are professionals and the tools they use are sterile and safe. Even though most states prohibit body piercing or tattoos for those under 18, some will allow the procedure on those younger as long as the parent consents. However, there are a good number of reasons for a parent to hesitate in giving their permission.
A navel piercing is best done by a professional and requires diligent aftercare to avoid infection. If your teenager does not practice good hygiene in all areas of her life then she may not be ready for this step. The healing process for this one procedure can take up to a year, so she has to be patient and willing to wait before she dives into the variety of belly button rings available to her. And we all know patience is difficult when you are young.
As a parent, you may wonder if this first taste of body jewelry will encourage her to branch out to other areas. It is hard to say but it is something you should think about before you give your okay. How would you feel if your child pierced her eyebrow or nose or mouth? Will she stop at   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net/Body-Jewelry/Belly-Button-Rings]belly button rings?
There seems to be no end to places people will pierce and once your daughter is out on her own you can't control what she does. You may decide that letting her go through this one belly button rings procedure while she is still under your roof is a good idea. You can help her through the discomfort and healing process so she will make good choices later, on her own, about belly button rings and everything else.

Express Your Creativity With Body Jewelry By You

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Jewelry-making has become more and more popular. If you are looking for something unique and truly "you" in body jewelry, consider creating your own.
There are so many creative people and so many ways to show off your artsy side. If you are into body jewelry such as belly button, nose, or eyebrow rings, did you know you could make your own? Because this type of accessory is already very affordable, you may not save money in doing so but sometimes it is more about being unique and showing the world who you are. After all, isn't that why you got your navel or nose pierced in the first place?
Here are some ideas for getting started:
1. Take a class at your local community college. Most continuing education programs include a jewelry-making class or two. Some people learn better when they can do things hands-on but with the guidance an expert instructor can provide. Oftentimes, the cost of the class includes supplies but pay attention to the fine print when signing up.
2. Take a class at a local craft store or boutique. The craft store chains are starting to pick up on this "do-it-yourself" trend by carrying jewelry-making supplies. They often offer classes for items they carry in the store so check the schedule at the locations in your area. They also usually offer a discount on supplies for those who are taking the courses they offer. Don't forget the small boutiques too! We have a locally owned bead store in our city that offers classes on body jewelry. You may have something like that near you.
3. Search the internet for how-to videos. If you can't find anything local or your prefer to learn at your own pace, you can be sure there is something on the web to help you out: videos, articles, etc. You can also find supplies online.
Once you get started, you should be able to make your own barbells, posts studded with jewels or gems that you like and more. There is no end to the   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net]body jewelry you can create!

Will Body Jewelry Make Your Good Kid Bad?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Every day I am more and more amazed at how fast my daughter is growing. It seems like the last time I looked, she was eight. Now she's going on fifteen. I'm so proud of the young person she's becoming. She is an excellent student and a good athlete and wants to go far in life. So when she displays interests or behaviors that are really very common to kids her age, I get shocked and find myself unable to process her feelings.
It seems many of her friends are advancing from standard ear piercings to other forms of body jewelry. I've seen one girl with a tragus and another with an eyebrow ring. While these forms of adornment won't be condoned by my daughter's coach, she still longs for other more questionable body jewelry.
Where her father and I struggle is with the notion of restricting her from something that she obviously thinks is important. Wouldn't that seem like punishment to a kid who excels and performs at almost everything she does? It would be easier to say "no" to body jewelry if she were a poor student or constantly had to be talked to about her behavior or attitude. That's not the case here.
On the other hand, we aren't parents to be friends. Parenting is parenting, and sometimes that means standing firm with rules you believe will serve the best long-term interests of your child, like   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net]body jewelry. If this sounds like something you're experiencing, I'd encourage you to talk openly and honestly with your kid about your concerns. They need to know why you don't support the idea, lest they think you don't care about their interests or don't believe they're living up to other expectations. If you just deliver an arbitrary "no!" without explanation, your good kid just might rebel.

Keloid Scar Treatments - What You Should Know

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Crystal_Morrigna]Crystal Morrigna
What are keloids, anyway?
First, let's discuss what a keloid scar is. They are basically made up of fibrous material within the confines of a scar, such as a chicken pox scar or a body piercing gone awry. They can range in size, from tiny and barely noticeable except to the touch, or they can get so large as to be an annoyance and in the way. They are generally smooth to the touch, and range in color from pink to red.
The problem
The problem with keloid scars is that they don't stop growing and migrating into flesh that hasn't been injured. The keloid itself is made up of scar tissue that never stopped growing or stopped after there was a large and noticeable bulge present on the surface of the skin. Most regular scars tend to fade away over time, but keloids do not.
There is no known reason why keloids happen. Some studies say that darker skinned people tend to get them more often than lighter skinned, but there is no definitive proof of this. Nor is there any reason to think that women get them more often than men, even though studies seem to indicate this. It is true, however, that women tend to have more piercings, thus having more opportunities to develop keloids. This may or may not be the reason why studies indicate women get them more often than men.
Is it possible to prevent keloid scars?
Since medical science has no idea why keloid scars occur nor for whom they will present, it is impossible to suggest any sort of preventative measures. If you have had them before or if you have other family members who have had them, then there's a good chance you will develop them with your next piercing. But there is no guarantee. The only way to avoid keloid scars is to not wound yourself, whether deliberately through body piercing or accidentally.
When Prevention Is Not Enough
Not injuring yourself is not always so easy. Accidents happen. Illnesses, like chicken pox, also happen and can cause keloid scars. There are measures one can take to get rid of keloids, but re-occurrance is very likely. Radiation, chemotherapy drugs, steroids, surgery and healing creams and gels all have their merits, but also have drawbacks. For example, A woman with whom I was speaking concerning her keloid problems told me that after 5 surgeries to remove the same scars, over and over, the only thing that worked, finally, for her was a combination of surgery, steroids and radiation.

Selecting New Belly Button Rings

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Purchasing new belly button rings can be a great way to treat yourself after working hard to achieve a great looking body. You may not realize it, but probably the best thing you can do for yourself is to buy high quality jewelry to ensure your body does not react poorly. Sometimes people can become allergic to certain metals most common in the cheaper priced selections. Just because you have never had a problem with it in the past does not mean you will be out of the woods forever.
When selecting new belly button rings, you should be extremely mindful of your activity level. While the dangling jewelry may look cute and fun, it can be quite dangerous if you plan to be active. Be sure to have simple stud options available for when you're most active or playing sports. While you may want to show off the fancy jewelry when you are poolside, it may not be the best place for it. You should be especially conscious of the size and shape of the jewelry if you are planning to wear tight clothing. Tight clothes can cause friction and irritation.
Another important thing to remember is to regularly clean your   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net/Body-Jewelry/Belly-Button-Rings]belly button rings. Failure to do so could result in an infection. It is very easy to get bacteria on the jewelry, which can cause a lot of problems once it gets into your piercing hole. Clean the jewelry and navel area with an antibacterial soap or saline solution. Experts recommend doing this at least twice a day for a fresh piercing. You will also want to be sure to clean it after being at the beach or in the pool to remove any contaminants or bacteria. If you fail to do a good job cleaning out your jewelry, you put yourself at serious risk of an infection.

What Is A Scaffold Piercing?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Crystal_Morrigna]Crystal Morrigna
Scaffold piercing has gained a lot of popularity these days among men and women who happen to be body modification enthusiasts. It is their way of expressing themselves as well as delving into body art. Also called industrial piercing, this body modification consists of two piercings along the top of the ear that are connected by a bar that passes through both holes.
In order to make sure that you have a scaffold piercing that would really stand out in a crowd, you have to be sure that the piercing is done by a professional with a lot of experience in the business. This is also to ensure that the piercing is done correctly and that there is no chance of infection at all. Professional body piercers are trained and certified for your protection. Make sure you see a reputable piercer for this job.
Keep in mind that scaffold piercing must be done using only the highest quality of surgical stainless steel that is recommended by professional piercers. Thus, adequate attention must be given to proper after care to avoid infection and skin irritations.
Choose professionals that conduct business under the highest possible sanitary conditions. Pick a piercer who is knowledgeable in scaffold piercing, has a lot of experience and has undergone sufficient training. You would want someone who would be able to put you at ease as the entire procedure can be extremely uncomfortable, even with the use of anesthesia. Do not be afraid to ask to see the piercer's qualifications.
After the work of piercing is done, you have to make sure that your wounds will not get infected. In order to prevent any kind of infection or irritation, be sure to use the best kind of material suited for piercing. Take your pick from surgical stainless steel, titanium or eighteen to twenty four karat gold. Gold is the most expensive so if you are on a somewhat limited budget, opt for the highest quality of surgical stainless steel that is durable, fashionable looking and safe for your ear.
Scaffold piercing can take a little while to be completely healed so you have to be very patient. Depending on the person's after care routines, healing can take anywhere from three months to an entire year. You certainly have to be very careful and make sure your piercings are kept clean and not fiddled around with. Do not be surprised if you experience some swelling, a little pain and throbbing after the piercing. This can take a few days to a week maximum for it to be completely gone.
For the first two weeks after you have had your scaffold piercing, take care to clean it about twice a day to prevent any kind of infection from setting in. Keep your hands away from it when you are not cleaning it so you will not transfer any germs to the wound. Keep your hair away from the wound as much as possible. Be diligent in cleaning it for the first two weeks as per instructions to ensure quick healing.

It usually takes a minimum of three months for a [http://bodypiercingplus.com/body-piercing/what-the-heck-is-an-industrial-ear-piercing.html]scaffold piercing to heal completely. After three months of making sure that you follow every instruction of your piercer and you have kept your wounds clean, it is time to flaunt those piercings and start having fun with some great [http://bodypiercingplus.com/category/body-piercing-jewelry]body piercing jewelry.

Belly Rings - Short And Long-Term Care

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
Belly rings require special care to heal properly. They also need continuous care for the life of the piercing.
Belly rings are probably the most common of body piercings. In fact, only the ear is pierced more often. However, this common piercing is not to be taken lightly. As well as being one of the most common piercing, they are also some of the most likely to be infected and have serious consequences. Thankfully, when treated properly, the chances of infection are extremely slim.
The navel area of the human body tends to be very dark, warm, and moist. These three factors add up to create a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. This is why so many belly rings end with serious infection. However, with more and more people being pierced by professionals, the number of infections has drastically decreased due to proper education.
When you get your belly pierced, it is similar to getting your ear pierced and yet it is extremely different. When you get your ear pierced, you cleanse it twice a day and then can pretty much forget about it. When you get your navel pierced, you have to clean it several times a day.
Belly rings require special cleaning as well. You cannot just run your washcloth over it and think it is clean. In order to assure yourself that your piercing is healing correctly you need to clean it carefully. The front and the back of the piercing needs to be cleaned with a special cleanser in order to help prevent infection, and every time it is cleaned, it also needs to be turned.
Turning your piercing ensures that the skin does not heal around the ring. Just like with an ear piercing, a navel piercing needs to be twisted on a regular basis to ensure that correct healing takes place.   rel=nofollow [http://www.bellybling.net]Belly rings also need to be exposed to the air as often as possible. Keeping your new piercing dry and clean ensures that you will soon have an awesome piercing to show off with the vast multitudes of rings available on today's market.

Are Belly Button Rings Losing Popularity?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
The question that often arises in the fashion world is if something is simply a trend, or is it to become a classic? This same question is posed by those interested in a belly piercing and wearing one of the many belly button rings that are in fashion right now. If you check the blogs and the social media outposts such as Facebook and Twitter you can find a lot of discussion about whether or not the belly ring is here to stay.
To answer this question it is probably best to take a step back and look at the roots of body piercing in general to see if it has been able to withstand the test of time. You can read about accounts in the Old Testament that indicate that some women had nose piercings. You can look at pictures coming out of the ancient ruins to see that there were piercings in the nose and the ears. And you can find evidence in Eastern cultures of various piercings related to religions and social status. Even in our Western culture ear piercings have become pretty mainstream.
Although some may still believe that belly button rings are nothing more than a temptation of the flesh; young women of all ages and across many cultural backgrounds are embracing the jewelry that they can wear in their navel. The perceptions of some will never be altered. However, many women choose their belly button rings as a sign of their femininity and confidence - not as a sign of their sexual habits.
Many fashions are designed which compliment the wearing of belly button rings. And, of course, the bikini is here to stay so summer is an ideal time to show off your body jewelry and your tan.
So are   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net/Body-Jewelry/Belly-Button-Rings]belly button rings losing some of their steam? Look in any fashion magazine or watch what the celebrities are doing and it would appear that this trend will continue. How to Get Tight Abs to Show Off Your Belly Rings

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
With summer just around the corner we are all gearing up for bikini season, exposed abs, and shiny new belly rings. While some may dread this season you will soon discover that there really is no reason to consider the long hot days of summer as anything less than a season of fun! The good news is that to get your tummy in shape to wear the latest and greatest belly button rings you need just a few weeks, minimal crunches, and the right kinds of food.
A successful and healthy weight strategy relies 80% on the foods that you choose to eat. Knowing this simple little fact makes tackling the summer season and your tummy a lot less scary. And let me stress that you will be able to eat food - great tasting food. Starving yourself to get six pack abs is not a good strategy! Nobody will enjoy your belly rings if you end up sick and have to stay indoors.
Here are several diet suggestions to get a flat tummy to show off your belly rings:
*Choose foods that are nutrient dense. This means you want to stay away from the white, processed carbs such as processed grains, potatoes, rice, bread, and pasta.
*Learn to love your veggies and protein. Grill up some summer squash and a chicken breast and you will find out that you don't even miss the cornbread or mashed potatoes. Try a chicken burger with tomato, lettuce, avocado and a thin whole grain bun. Or, skip the bun and toss it all in a salad.
*Experiment with MUFA's. These are your mono unsaturated fatty acids - the good fats. Included in this category are natural peanut butter, avocados, walnuts, almonds, olive oil and sunflower seeds, just to name a few. This type of fat actually helps you burn tummy fat to get ready to show off your belly rings.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for getting a flat tummy that is sexy and in shape for   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net/Body-Jewelry/Belly-Button-Rings]belly rings, bikinis, and better overall health. Dive into that salad and then get ready to dive into some summer fun.

High-End Belly Button Rings

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
If you have your navel pierced, you probably spend a fair bit of time shopping for new jewelry. If you're like most people, you gravitate towards the cheaper belly button rings simply because it doesn't always make sense to spend a lot of money on something so small. However, I challenge you to consider these pieces to be more like regular jewelry, and as such, look into some high-end pieces.
If you haven't actually gotten your piercing yet, you might consider purchasing a surgical steel piece as the ring you wear while your piercing heals. Implant grade steel is preferred, but most experts agree that 316-L surgical grade stainless steel is appropriate for a new piercing. Stainless steel is appreciated because it is hypoallergenic and therefore won't react with the tissues of the body to cause an allergic reaction. Choose the piece carefully as you will wear it for many months while your navel heals.
After the appropriate amount of healing time, you will be able to change out the stainless piece for something more decorative. This is the time when you might consider some of the high-end belly button rings on the market. Some metals to consider include titanium and gold. While these belly button rings are certainly more expensive than the ones you can buy at a jewelry store in the mall, you will find that they will last for years and years. There is also very little risk of allergic reaction from these metals.
If you can't afford titanium or gold, it's worth it to try and save up some money until you can afford a nicer piece. In the meantime, you might choose to leave your stainless steel piece in place since it will reduce the incidence of infection. When you can afford to buy the   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net/Body-Jewelry/Belly-Button-Rings]belly button rings that you have been saving for, you will find that your wait was worth it.

Get Ready For Summer Fun With Body Jewelry

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_S._Montgomery]Julie S. Montgomery
You can accessorize all year long but there are certain types of body jewelry which are lots more fun sparkling in the summer sun. Toe rings and ankle bracelets just aren't as easy to do in seasons where socks and boots are required. Likewise, belly button rings have more impact when you are wearing midriff tops and bikinis rather than sweaters and coats.
Summer is thankfully right around the corner so now is the time to think about the type of body jewelry you want to wear with your shorts and halter tops. What do you want to show off "below the neck?" Rings, barbells and studs that decorate your nose, ears and eyebrows are perfect all year long because the "above the neck" part of your body is always visible. Now that we can start shedding the heavy clothes and show some skin, it is time to polish up what we already have or think about adding to our collection of body jewelry.
Is this the year you will get your navel pierced? Belly button rings have never been more popular. If you have spent the winter exercising and getting your abs in shape for a bikini, why not take that extra step and add some bling to the area as well? Navel piercings can take four to twelve months to heal so don't put it off too much longer. If you heal slowly, there is even more reason for getting started sooner rather than later. You will want to be able to start wearing the many studs, barbells and dangling options available for your belly button but you can only do so if it is completely healed.
I don't know if sandals are officially considered   rel=nofollow [http://www.bodybling.net]body jewelry but I definitely think of them that way. Shoes is one area many women love to splurge but you don't want to forget first things first. A Spring pedicure can get you ready to show off your feet and put you in the mood to shop for sandals, toe rings and ankle bracelets to wear with your skirts and shorts. I don't know why, but feet and toe decorations make me feel like summer is here more than any other type of accessory. And anything that makes you feel like summer has to be good!
